What are the Latest Industry 4.0 Developments?

IPC-CFX and The Hermes Standard Work Together.

At the recent SMT Nuremberg, IPC proposed to convert the Hermes Standard, the open protocol and new backbone for board-flow data management in Smart SMT Factories, into an IPC Standard. The new standard called IPC-HERMES-9852 for simple, effective multi-vendor line management will be the successor to IPC-SMEMA-9851 and will gradually replace it. It was determined that all parties will benefit from the cross-reference. Based on this, end users will be supported in the selection of future M2M interfaces to completely replace IPC-SMEMA-9851 step-by-step, which should further bolster global acceptance. This development will be highlighted at the upcoming Nepcon Shenzhen.

The Hermes standard initiative will not change its setup as a vendor driven initiative and is seen by IPC as an independent working group issuing new versions of the standard 1-2 times per year. Will this change how the Hermes group has worked together so far? The Hermes Standard leader responded “Everything will be the same. Just better.” IPC did not and will not actively influence, nor will the new situation impact the set-up of the Hermes Standard Initiative.
